2008-07-21 14:20 - Summer holiday... [0 comments]
The summer is ongoing and this is reflected in the work and use of Guildage. I have not had much time to develope new things but everything is lined up for when the summer is over.

A lot of guilds are taking well deserved raid breaks, but I see more is getting back from vacation these days. Happy raiding to all of you ;)

Many things are being considered for the future of Guildage. The worst part is - I have too many ideas to realize them all right now. Maybe more developers will be "hired" for the project, but that is to be decided over the next weeks/months.

The system is already prepared to be used for more than just WoW but is not 100% ready in all regards for that just yet. I have no intention of making it support all possible games in the world, but the possibilities are many - and I have a lot in mind in that regard, nevertheless :)

That was a few words to let you know I'm still alive.

Have a pleasent summer!

2008-03-30 15:15 - Good news everyone... [0 comments]
I just thought I'd share a happy moment with you all :)

Last night GEMS got its 2000th user registration and we also passed 100k pageviews/month.

Both were bound to happen with the increased usage over the months - but never the less is warms my hearth to see it actually happening ;)

Your support means a lot to me, and it will keep me developing the system even further - as planned.

Have a nice Sunday :)

2008-03-19 21:06 - Happy easter... [0 comments]
Hey everyone,

Just wanted to let you all know that lots of work is being put into the DKP system and I hope to have a first draft to show soon. There is a LOT of groundwork to be covered before I can show anything really... but once that base is built the system will take form quickly, and the turnaround time for new features will decrease once again :)

A few days of national holiday here, because of easter, will maybe mean more time for development - but there's also a lot of parties that needs my attendance ;)

Happy easter to all of you

2008-02-21 22:58 - Expanding forum categories and forced sign ups [0 comments]
By popular demand I have now implemented expanding categories in the forum.

This means that you can choose to expand a single category to let it show what sub-categories is has beneath it. It should be pretty straight forward - but let me know if you think anything should be changed in this regard.

I also implemented "forced sign up" to let officers give certain members raid priority even if they signed up late. This is to circumvent the fact that sometimes class balance is off and needs correction.

Some will see this function as a way to "confirm sign up" which is fine by me - call it want you want - use it like you want... it's a free country ;)

Ni "broken toe" signing out for the night
2008-02-17 22:10 - GEMS v0.4.2 released [0 comments]
Time for a site update and a look into the future...

The major changes are as following:

- Rename character
- Auto remote fetching item/loot details if non-existing locally
- Front page redesign
- New access level for webmasters
- News / article system
- Votes / Polls per guild and system wide

Minor changes:

- Linking to Break.com and Google Video...
- Comments for news / articles
- Timezone offset for RSS feeds

Security issues:

- Unreported potential exploit in event listing
- User applying for a guild should stay private (on IRC)

Looking at the future:

The last poll pretty much spoke for itself. We will focus on implementing DKP next. Several solutions are already in the works and we're looking forward to show you first drafts as soon as possible.

The item database / lookup has also undergone heavy work to be ready for the DKP system. While we do anticipate making all sort of import functionality from the major addons and existing DKP systems, we also feel it's important to make our very own contribution in sense of an updated, feature rich, innovating, and easy to use DKP system.

Stay tuned for more information on all of this.
2008-01-24 09:14 - Poll: What feature would you like to see next? [17 comments]
This poll is to get a feeling of what you think this site lacks the most.

There are 100s of small and big features to implement, and we would like to include you, the users, in the priority list of this.

Feel free to make elaborate comments to this poll.
2008-01-18 14:50 - Poll: Time to pull some polls...? [1 comments]
Polls have now been implemented and primarily testing has been concluded.

Feel free to test your mouse on this test poll, or create your own inside the forum.

By default, only Guild Masters have access - but as always - they can delegate this access by granting more power to members:

Navigate to / guild / admin / account / <username> / then press "modify". (look for "forum: polls")

(press link for direct access)

PS: This also means that the default display order of forum posts have changed from "time/date descending" to "time/date ascending". This will be a user setting.
2008-01-11 15:02 - Linking to items / loot [2 comments]
It is now possible to link items like [Hide of the Wild] in your messages (forum / news / etc.).

Just use the [ item ] Item name [ / item ] tag as described when writing new posts.

This is only the beginning. New items are not updated instantly yet, so bare with us while we work out the details on getting the latest and greatest items into the database.

Enjoy!
2007-12-30 22:19 - New image server [4 comments]
If you wonder why class icons have been missing for the last couple of hours it is simply because I forgot to upload them to the new image server I have put into place.

This should hopefully speed up load time - even when it was fast already :)

Enjoy!

2007-12-22 10:55 - Embedded YouTube movies [3 comments]
Goodmorning Europe :)

I just wanted to let you all know that it is now also possible to embed YouTube videos directly into your forum posts.

Let me know if you think more things should be possible to embed...

Merry Christmas from all of us to all of you :)

2007-12-19 23:24 - News article component [0 comments]
It is now possible to write news articles from within the forum system.

Members with the right amount of access will see a new option on all forum posts. If the article is written inside a public area it will be visible from both your custom homepage and news page - and of course in the forum area.

If you write the article inside a private area it will not be visible to anyone but members of the guild - naturally. This is not reflected on the custom homepage and news page yet - but it will be soon.

With this function completed there is not a long way for polls to also work. Enjoy.
2007-10-23 23:22 - General update [0 comments]
Summer is over and the weather is starting to get really cold here. This may be good for the development of GEMS :)

We have not received a single trouble report in more than 2 months - and the activity on the site is only raising. I hope this means you have not found any errors in the system ;)

In the months to come we will try to implement a few large sub-systems like DKP and crafting to mention a few. The forum system will also get an overhaul - and we are trying to find capable artists to help us style things a bit.
2007-08-20 23:22 - Summer update [0 comments]
During summer there have been little if any development at GEMS.

However - that has not stopped people from signing up - meaning more than 1000 users are now using GEMS.

Borat says: very nice!
2007-06-21 23:22 - Version 0.4.1 [0 comments]
This is a maintenance release with no major functionality added.

It it also exactly 1 month since Guildage went public.

Believe it or not - but that is a complete coincidence :)
2007-06-19 23:21 - Featured on Mason HQ homepage [0 comments]
I have enlisted this site on the Mason Powered Sites page on the Mason HQ homepage.

Respect to the developers behind this brilliant framework!
2007-06-12 23:21 - General update [0 comments]
While I have nothing new and big to present, I thought I'd let you know why the page has been down this morning. The server hosting the system suffered from a "simple" resource exhaustion. This was tuned and saved for preventing the same to happen in the future. Everything is up and back to normal.

I apologize for the downtime - and I'm glad it happened off peak hours.

Stay tuned for more features to be implemented in a near future. The impatient souls can view the feature requests at the bug tracker as usual.
2007-05-21 23:20 - Version 0.4.0 - Guildage goes public! [0 comments]
The basic system is now complete and this concludes version 0.3.x.

This version includes a full forum system and a custom homepage per guild. Enjoy :)

Up until now the system has only been introduced to a select amount of people. This was to ensure that the quality of the base system was good enough - before releasing to a wider audience.
2007-05-08 23:20 - Version 0.3.7 [0 comments]
One month went by and a few things have changed. It is now possible to setup events for "sign up by function".

This feature has been requested by several guilds so I figured it was about time to implement it.

The forum is still my main working area - so you can expect a more complete forum in the days/weeks/months to come :)
2007-04-08 23:20 - Version 0.3.6 [0 comments]
I have decided to release this version in order to let you all know about the new time zone system.

In the top right corner you still have the date and time which is showing the server time by default. You can now set your local time zone in the account settings which will be used throughout the system.

To GMs and officers: when you start using a localized time zone for events, please let your members know, since they will most likely not find out by themselves ;)
2007-03-25 23:19 - Domain name for GEMS [2 comments]
I have decided to buy a domain name for GEMS and since "gems" is too common a word I didn't bother finding a name with "gems" in it.

The offical URL for GEMS is now http://guildage.com
2007-03-10 23:19 - Version 0.3.5 [0 comments]
It is now possible to get your events and signups streamed on IRC. Just come to #Guildage on QuakeNet and request it.

There have been a few things added on the ranks page (mainly for officers). Several non-fatal bugfixes have been completed. Also a few navigational issues have been addressed with input from users.
2007-03-07 23:18 - General update [0 comments]
I quit... my job - because I got something better offered :)

Unfortunately this means I don't have so much time at hand right now. When I'm settled in at the new place, I will get back coding Guildage.

A few more guilds have started using Guildage and that's all good.

We don't get many bug reports so I'm guessing everything works as intended ;)

The main issue I hear over and over is the lack of online help. I will try to make this a lot better ASAP, and to get a head start on this, I have made an online F.A.Q. available (look at the site menu). I will try to keep this updated when I hear the same question too many times :)
2007-02-17 23:18 - Version 0.3.4 [0 comments]
Oooops! If you have been seeing some "500 - Internal Server Error" for the last couple of hours I want to let you know this was unfortunately introduced with the RSS feature. The problem has been located and hotfixed straight away. Sorry!

That hotfix also concludes testing version 0.3.4 which is now active and live on this site. The biggest changes are added RSS feeds, more countries, professions, and suggestions of the same.
2007-02-06 23:17 - General update [0 comments]
Latest features includes a more detailed user account with zipcode and gender added. Professions and crafting is in the works - and I will soon release a rich subsystem to register and search crafters of rare items and recipes both within your guild and also server wide.
2007-01-25 23:16 - Version 0.3.3 [0 comments]
Final tests of the guild administration is coming to an end. Officers can now validate and reject applications, kick members, get an overview of pending applications. While it is tested pretty well on our development systems I would still like to get reports from you if something seems to not work - or just seems illogical.
2007-01-23 23:16 - Version 0.3.2 [0 comments]
The main features are for guild admins who can reject applications and give the user a reason to why it was rejected.

It is also a lot easier to get an overview of the number of pending applications your guild has.

Your own character list has also been improved slightly.

If you have pending applications you will also see the status on the main menu (left side) and on the detailed list you can click (modify) to see the rejection reason - if any.
2007-01-17 23:15 - Version 0.3.1 [0 comments]
It is now possible to suggest new servers and use them straight away. This opens up for a wider test base and I think the system is ready for just that by now.
2007-01-14 23:13 - Version 0.3 [0 comments]
It is now possible to make new guilds by yourself and manage it fully without help from the admins of Guildage.

In a near future it will also be possible to submit new games, servers, realms, races, and classes with the same intuitive interface as met throughout the rest of the system.

When that part is open and stable I will make the forum module to have both private and public discussions available.
